BAGC News round up

We’ve been busy here at BAGC!

First year students have recently returned buzzing from the 2 day ‘4Designers’ Trip to London where we heard from inspirational speakers Tom Allen from ‘Futurebrand’, Morag Myerscough, James Canell of ‘Pret a Manger”and Greg Quinton of ‘The Partners’ and saw some great work.

The trip also included a visit to the Dare studios (http://www.thisisdare.com) where BAGC graduate Tom Harle works, and we enjoyed a few drinks in the pub with some of our London based graduates.

Hot on the heels of the London trip was an evening visit on 26th Feb to the West of England Design Forum (http://www.wedesignforum.co.uk/) in Bristol, to hear the very entertaining Simon Manchip and friends from ‘someone’ design (http://www.someoneinlondon.com/), giving great advice on why you should never think logo again when talking or designing branding.

Throughout the Spring term groups of students have also taken opportunities to travel abroad to Venice, Morocco and Rajasthan as part of their ‘Field’ module studies.

The Moroccan trip included visits to souks, museums and gardens, along with lectures, film screenings, food and belly dancing!

The Rajasthan trip included visits to traditional block printing and screen printing workshops. Watch out for work from these trips after Easter.

Second year students have also been working on an enterprise project, developing business ideas and branding for products which were then produced and sold on Campus.

Third year students are currently working with newly appointed associate lecturer, ex-‘Elmwood’ and ‘the Allotment’ Creative Director, Mike Smith, who is supporting them as they tackle the ‘Competition’ briefs and an interesting live brief called “Agent for Change’.

In preparation for leaving us our 3rd years have the opportunity of portfolio reviews and interviews with award winning local company ‘Stills’ design ( http://www.stills.co.uk/ ), which will lead to a placement and even a junior design job in the Summer.

Finally, look out for an opportunity to join us for a “Type hunt” at the end of March in Cardiff city centre… keep an eye on our Facebook for details.
